In Rise of Kingdoms, Ivar the Boneless is a legendary Infantry commander. He has the Infantry, Conquering, and Defense talent trees.
Should you invest in Ivar the Boneless?
Ivar the Boneless is an extremely good rally commander. What is great about him is that he has incredibly strong AOE damage that fires very often thanks to his passive rage generation. On top of that, he has a lot of stats that are extremely beneficial for rallying objectives. You can also use him as a secondary commander.
So if you are a rally leader who has maxed-out infantry units, then you should definitely get him. If you are a free-to-play player or someone who does not lead rallies on objectives, then feel free to skip him. Most of his kit is not active when you are using him in the open field. He is a commander that is designed only for rallying. So as a free-to-play player, there are other commanders that will give you much better value.
- Active skill hits up to 3 targets with a 2,500 damage factor — one of the hardest-hitting AoE actives infantry has ever had.
- Triggers silence on the target when Ivar is primary → short but huge disruption window.
- 10% health, 30% attack, 20% march speed from his 2nd skill. Unlike most garrison/rally commanders, these are always active, not locked behind a garrison context.
- When under 30% units remaining, gain 25 rage on every basic attack. In a long, non-swarmed rally where you’re tanking, this talent can go absolutely insane — especially alongside combo cavalry.
- Half his kit is dead weight in open field. 3rd and 4th skill: does literally nothing outside rally/garrison.
- He will almost always be a secondary in the field. Always.
- Being locked as secondary means he needs to be exceptional to justify the cost. He isn’t exceptional enough at 5511.

Ivar the Boneless Pairings
Ivar the Boneless and Scipio Aemilianus are one of best infantry pairings in the game. Scipio Aemilianus primary applies a 20% damage debuff to the target for 3 seconds, then Ivar’s 2,500 DF active fires into a weakened target. Scipio Aemilianus primary also silences the target. Stops counterplay during your burst window. Ivar’s AoE hits up to 3 targets simultaneously. Maximizes the damage window Scipio Aemilianus creates. Combined: debuff, silence, AoE smite into a broken defense.
Ivar the Boneless and Sun Tzu Prime pairing is increadibly strong for rallying. Sun Tzu Prime pairs well with Ivar’s rage engine. Sun Tzu Prime kit + Ivar’s always-active stats + AoE active = a functional infantry march.
