Maya is a civilization in Rise of Kingdoms for players who are using ranged attacks with siege units. The reason for that is the bonus normal damage that the Maya civilization gives. It also has archer defense, but that is not great when you compare it to other archer civilizations like the Ottoman Empire.
Maya Civilization Stats
If you decide to choose the Mayan civilization, you will get three different bonuses. The bonuses that you will get are: an increase in archer defense by 5%, normal damage to all types by 3%, and gold gathering speed by 10%.
An increase in archer defense by 5% is a decent amount, but what is preferable for archers is health stats that the Ottoman Empire has. So if you are using archer units, I would not recommend that you take the Maya civilization.
Normal damage to all types by 3% is for players who are playing a ranged type of combat with siege units. This will further boost your damage. The last stat that you will get is gold gathering speed by 10%, which is huge if you are in the late game.
This is excellent for a farm account where you are farming a lot of resources, especially gold. Just do not take the Maya civilization on your main account just because it has a gold gathering boost. It is not worth it.
Maya Special Units
Spear Throwers are special units that you will get with the Maya civilization. They have nice stats, but in the end, they are not the reason why you should take the Maya civilization. There are other better options.
Should you change your civilization to Maya?
The Maya civilization is a decent civilization for players who are using a ranged type of combat, but for the rest of the players, it is a big skip. The reason is that the Maya civilization does not provide stats that are important for infantry, cavalry, or archers.
Also, if you are a new player, then you should definitely skip it and take a civilization that will give you a boost in progress, like Korea, with research speed.
The best place to use the Maya civilization is on your farm account, where you will gather a lot of gold for your main account.
Maya Commander
If you are a new player and choose the Maya civilization, you will get the commander
Wak Chanil Ajaw. This is a gathering commander, and you will have 0 benefits from having it early on. She is not that powerful, and 99% of players are using her only for gathering, nothing more.
If you are a new player, you are better off choosing China over the Maya civilization simply because you will get Sun Tzu, who is still extremely strong in a new kingdom.
