In Rise of Kingdoms, Sun Tzu Prime is a legendary infantry commander. He has the Infantry, Versatility, and Smite talent trees.
Should you invest in Sun Tzu Prime?
Sun Tzu Prime is an extremely strong infantry commander. Think of Sun Tzu Prime as an upgraded version of the epic Sun Tzu. He is different, but much stronger than the normal version. What makes Sun Tzu Prime extremely strong is that he requires only 900 rage to activate his skill, while other commanders need 1000 rage, which is a huge difference. Also, his skill damage is extremely strong.
So if you are a free-to-play player who is focused on infantry units, then you should definitely get Sun Tzu Prime. He is extremely strong and has a lot of options for pairings—you cannot go wrong with it. Also, he is an iconic hero from day one of Rise of Kingdoms, so even for that reason, he is worth getting.
- 900 rage requirement instead of standard 1,000 — one full second faster per cycle, which compounds into massive damage over a fight. The faster your cycles run, the more valuable every rage source becomes. Cutting from 6s to 5s cycle = 20% more active skill DPS. This is the core of his kit.
- Military Sage: every smite hit also deals true AoE damage (30% of smite value) to 2 nearby enemies in a fan. That jump from 20% to 30% at expertise = 50% more AoE output just from maxing him. Also generates 20 rage per enemy troop hit — up to 40 rage per proc, feeding back into his fast cycle. Self-reinforcing loop.
- Military Sage amplifies smite damage from any source — future smite commanders will naturally benefit from pairing with him. He’s designed to stay relevant as the meta evolves.
- 5511 gives you roughly 70% of his potential — the AoE is literally half as strong without expertise. Don’t invest unless you’re going all the way. This is not a budget build commander.
- The rage loop exists but doesn’t run itself. Without Horn of Fury and the right pairing, you’re not hitting optimal cycle speeds.

Sun Tzu Prime Pairings
Sun Tzu Prime and Bai Qi is one of best infantry pairings that you can use. Bai’s damage output pushes Sun Tzu Prime skill cycles to their limit. Sun Tzu Prime Military Sage amplifies every Bai Qi smite hit into additional AoE. If you do not have Bai Qi then you can pair Sun Tzu Prime with William Wallace or
Liu Che.
Sun Tzu Prime and Ivar pairing is incredibly strong for rallying. Sun Tzu Prime pairs well with Ivar’s rage engine. Sun Tzu Prime kit + Ivar’s always-active stats + AoE active = a functional infantry march.
