Afonso is an engineering commander in Rise of Kingdoms with versatility, engineering and support talent tree. Afonso is designed for range combat which is a unique way of fighting on open field. His skills are decent, more for supporting team, not for dealing damage.
Should you invest in Afonso?
For most people answer is not. Reason is that you will need engineering commander and gear and his unique way of fighting is not for everyone. If you are free-to-play player who prefers normal open field fighting then skip him. Only get him if you are playing range combat.

Afonso Pairings
John: John is great commander to use with Afonso. Reason is that John will boost range skill damage and add rage generation. This will make Afonso AOE skills more often and stronger.
Stephen: Steven is also not bad commander to pair with Afonso. Together they will have more sustain, procs and overall stats.
